Easy Backyard Design Ideas

Turn your backyard into an even more comfortable haven with these backyard design ideas:

  • Add a birdbath and bird feeder. Feathered friends will thank you, and you will have plenty to look at when you gaze out the window. Experiment with different feed to attract a wide variety of birds.
  • Swing the day away. If you have a sturdy tree with wide, long branches, an old-fashioned swing might be in order. A simple rope or tire swing can bring back great childhood memories and add an air of whimsy to your backyard.
  • Use beautiful ground cover. If there are areas of your backyard that don't take kindly to growing grass and often look a bit spotty, turn to Boston Ivy or Virginia Creeper to cover the spaces with lush, lovely greenery.
  • Light the way. Torches can add a dash of class to your backyard and make it easier to stay out after the sun goes down. Choose high-end torches that add opulence to your backyard or go for the more practical torches that specialize in keeping the mosquitoes away.
  • Add a bit of color. Paint the inside of your privacy fence a new color. Add a mirror to your patio wall. Put an all-weather wicker couch on your deck and paint it bright yellow. Splashes of color here and there can add life and easy personality to your backyard haven.
