Backyard Spa: Frozen Pipes
When using a backyard spa during the winter there's a risk that water may freeze in the pipes. Having a mode switch labeled "timer/thermostat" or "timer/no-freeze" can help prevent this problem. Turning this switch on will help maintain a constant temperature even when you aren't using it. You'll also want to keep the thermostat on to the normal operational setting.

Backyard Spa Heats Up
The colder it is the longer it will take for your backyard spa to heat up. Use a cover with good insulation to help cut down on the time it takes to heat up your hot tub and amount of energy needed. A floating thermal blanket can also keep in heat and cut down on your energy bills. It's less expensive to keep the water temperature at a more controlled level than to let it get ice cold and have to heat it up. You'll also have to use fewer chemicals. Remember to keep your cover free of snow.

Do not drain and clean your hot tub during the winter. If you plan to use it during the cold months you can give it a good cleaning in the fall. After frequent use during the winter, you'll probably want to add cleaning your backyard spa to your spring lawn maintenance and home repair list.

With a little preparation, you can enjoy your backyard spa year round, greatly enhancing your backyard living experience.
