i have heard that using lime on your yard will help get rid of those brown spots also. Does anyone have any ideas on that.

Diluting it does work best, but make sure you aerate or you will just spread the nitrogen over a larger area and make a bigger yellow spot.

Great comments here. I find that using sandal aerators also help (the ones with spikes on the soles). I slide them on once a day when I take my dog out and walk across the affected areas. I also sprinkle a little bit of sand over the area so that the turf grows back thicker and stronger. This is a simple, yet effective, way to handle the problem without using chemicals on my lawn.

I had a huskie who was too old to train new potty rules too, she went where ever she wanted. The simplest tactic that won't cost you much or potentially cause injury to your dog (not sure how much I trust those pills...) is to just water the spot out when they are through with there business. Can't tell you how many times I've had to repair entire patches of lawn though when you have multiple dogs to keep track of.

Some good advice. Pet damage is a very difficult thing to keep up with since there is no one good solution. Watching were your dog goes and dumping water on the area will dilute the urine. Feeding your pet a wet type food instead of dry foods is also supposed to help. Best thing to keep in mind is that if you are going to have a dog, your lawn will probably never look its best.
